RAMALLAH, May 23 (Xinhua) -- At the age of 25, Fayez Karaky, has already managed to make an impact on the Palestinian industry of animated films by owning Palestine's first company producing animations.
Now he aspires to exert more influence on the global stage.
"Since I was a child, I have had a talent for drawing. I learned how to turn drawings into artistic models using pottery clay when I was very young," the Palestinian artist told Xinhua.
Karaky said he dropped out of school as a teenager to focus on his dream of making animations. Throughout the years, he has managed to teach himself the technique of stop-motion, how to use various types of graphic software, and other skills by watching Youtube clips.
After many years of hard work and failures, Karaky finally founded his company in 2020 when he was only 23.
"I was confident that one day I would succeed in fulfilling my dream and establish a well-known name in this industry," he said while he was making a number of models using clay.
Usually, it takes several people to produce a single animated movie, but this was not possible for al-Karaky at that time as he did not have the money to pay for any assistants and had to do all the work by himself.
The process of producing a film has many stages.
"The first one is choosing the idea of the film, and writing the script. After that, I start making the characters for the film using clay. Then I take many photos of the characters as each frame of one second needs 24 photos," explained Karaky.
"After dozens of right and wrong attempts, I finally succeeded in producing the first animated film in 2012 called 'The Wave and the Sea,' which was talking about the Gaza Strip," he said, adding that he earned about 400 U.S. dollars for his maiden work.
"For some, that amount was a bit small, but I felt very happy and made sure that I was on the right path toward achieving my dream of setting up my own company," recalled the young man.
In 2016, he won the Best Animated Film Award in Palestine through the "Partnership for Development" project launched by the Ma'an Development Foundation.
Now he is producing animated films for 5,000 dollars per minute, as he has managed to build a good number of Arab and foreign clients.
However, a lack of necessary materials and tools in Palestine forces him to use alternatives or even manufacture them manually.
"This means extra time and efforts," said Karaky.
The Palestinian artist said he is planning to participate in international and Arab competitions, believing that he is moving steadily towards going global.
