DUBAI, 4th April, 2023 (WAM) - Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the President of the Arab and Emirati Fencing Federations, recently attended the opening of the Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where he emphasised the importance of the UAE team's participation in the competition. The UAE team will compete in the Sabre, Foil, and Epee categories, as part of the federation's strategy to prepare a generation of qualified competitors who are capable of competing at a global level.
During his visit, Al Qasimi met with the UAE team to offer his support and urge them to put in their best efforts. He also highlighted the federation's goal of enhancing the UAE's global stature in the sport of fencing by participating in major tournaments and organizing training camps for competitors of all age groups.
The championship, which will run until 9th April 2023, will feature a total of 1,700 fencers from 38 countries, including 11 male and female athletes from the UAE. The event is being organised by the Bulgarian Fencing Federation in partnership with the International Fencing Federation (FIE). The FIE's Interim President, Emmanuel Katsiadakis, noted that this is the fourth time in the past 20 years that Plovdiv has hosted this important FIE competition.
